SANGIZA-Digital Innovation Training (DIT): Tech skills-4-Digital Youth Ambassadors Program 2024
We are excited to introduce “SANGIZA-Digital Innovation Training (DIT): Tech skills-4-Digital Youth Ambassadors Program 2024”, a youth-empowerment initiative under the SANGIZA project that aims to tackle two significant challenges: the growing issue of e-waste and the need for digital skills among youth. Implemented by The Tuti Mutabazi Foundation (TMF) through the ITU Generation Connect Young Leadership Programme (GCYLP), a prestigious initiative by International Telecommunication Union (ITU, a UN agency for ICTs) in partnership with Huawei, this program aims to empower the next generation of innovators with essential digital skills while promoting responsible tech practices.

Program Overview:
The SANGIZA project includes a skills development hub designed to enhance digital literacy and encourage responsible tech practices among youth. By leveraging AI and blockchain technologies, we focus on emerging technologies, skills development, green livelihoods, digital inclusion, and community impact. This program strives to revolutionize digital consumption for a more sustainable and interconnected future.
Program Structure:
The program consists of two main stages:
- Online Courses: Covering AI and emerging technologies, sustainable tech, design thinking and UI/UX, digital media vs. social media and pitching and presentation skills.
- In-Person Training: Intensive skills training and project development sessions in Kigali, featuring design thinking, IP and innovation, sustainability and circular economy, digital prototyping, and project design and management.
Candidate Profile:
We are looking for enthusiastic innovators who are current students or recent graduates from University of Rwanda or any accredited universities in Rwanda. Ideal candidates are pursuing degrees in Engineering, Architecture, Design, ICT/IT, Environment-related or STEM fields. Participants should complete online courses and submit tech innovation projects for selection. The project must be at the idea stage or a final year degree thesis project falling into the general theme of Digital Innovation in Sustainable Tech under the following sub-themes: Sustainable Tech, Smart Cities, Educational Technology (EdTech), Green & Circular Economy, and Tech-Enabled Social Innovation. Our main goal is to involve participants in the research and innovation process, leading to an innovative project. Finalists will attend in-person training to develop their projects to the proof of concept stage.
How to Apply:
- Complete the Application Form: Begin by filling out the Application Form
- Complete Online Courses: Take the recommended online courses on digital skills and submit your project idea.
- Attend In-Person Training: Be available for an inspiring and hands-on in-person training session to develop your project further. To be able to attend, you must be residing in Rwanda during the in-person training. Please note that you must be residing in Rwanda to participate in the in-person training.
